A Blast From the Past

Who said it was a good idea for me to sign up on Facebook??  Its nice making connections with fellow comedians, bookers and promoters, but being reminded that I dressed up as Ed Grimly (yes, triangle and everything) for Halloween in high school really doesn't need to be made public.  I also don't need reminders of band camp, the prom, or any other event that I've paid a lot of money in counseling to have permanently erased from my memory.

I don't particularly need reminders that my hair was so short when I was a freshman that people thought I was a boy and sadly resembled Ralph Macchio from the Karate Kid
(okay, now that I'm 18 years removed from that torture, that's actually pretty funny).  Kids can be cruel, but I'm pretty sure that comment came from my sister.  (for the record this IS Ralph Macchio. Just to clear up any confusion :)).

There are a ton of things from the eighties and nineties that will stay in the time vault in my memory.  I have to be honest though, I'm a "brat pack" kid at heart.  I have no problem quoting Ferris Bueller's Day Off in public, throwing out a line from Weird Science, and am actually quite proud to recite most of "The Princess Bride" upon request.

I'm reminiscing about a lot of this right now because I've been blessed with a brand new niece (thanks to the straight one in the family...GO SIS!).  The thought that I will be Fif.....old, I'll be older.. when she graduates from high school is humbling enough, but it just sounds weird when you say "class of 2026".  As cruel as some of my childhood was, I hope when she is my age, she looks back fondly on the equivalent of Swatches, parachute pants, Flock of Seagulls, and Tang.  I'm going to do my best to make sure Z-Cavariccis never come back into style!

"It is a rare gift for a comedian to come on stage and make everything seem funny, right from the very start. Dana's sharp, insightful observations are concealed behind an easy-going, chatty style. This makes her one of a handful of comics able to transfer their work across the Atlantic." ~ John Ryan, Edinburgh Festival, Award Winner, Irish Post Columnist-Ireland
